This is always the first that I go for. (It’s actually tied in a top-3 with Peter White and the Classic Vince Guaraldi - more on to come.) I bought this on Good Old “CD” way back in 1996 when it was released.
On Remembering Christmas, David Benoit, consistently one of the jazz worlds most versatile keyboard players and arrangers, duets with legendary pianist Dave Brubeck, adapting Mendelssohn’s classic melody into a unique 5/4 arrangement that allows both pianists to stretch out on their dual grand pianos. Michael Franks’ unmistakable voice joins Benoit’s versatile piano in a samba-esque version of “Christmas Time is Here,” from Vince Guaraldi’s beloved score to A Charlie Brown Christmas. Earl Klugh’s satiny guitar adds just the right touch to Benoit’s ice-smooth arrangement of “Skating,” (also from the classic animated special).
In a radical departure from previous versions, Benoit and his band, which includes Chick Corea Electric Band bassist John Patitucci, turn yet another song from the classic Peanuts cartoon, “Christmas Is Coming,” into one of the funkiest pieces of fusion ever to grace a Yuletide record.
Surprisingly, I was only able to find one full song online:
